Kashmir blast kills four Indian troops

NEW DELHI, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- At least four Indian troops were killed and seven others injured when their vehicle ran over a landmine in the strife-torn Kashmir region.

The soldiers were patrolling in the village of Salar in the Anantnag district when their vehicle ran over the landmine.

Kashmir has been embroiled in a 15-year-old separatist Islamic uprising. More than a dozen Islamic militant outfits are fighting for the independence of Kashmir, India's only Muslim majority state.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the Thursday blast.

More than 37,000 people have died in the uprising. Militants put the death toll at 80,000.
