JERUSALEM, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon canceled a meeting with Palestinian authorities Thursday shortly after another suicide bomber struck.
Ten Israelis were killed in an attack on a bus in Jerusalem. Sharon and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said that it was inappropriate to discuss easing restrictions on the Palestinians on the day when Israelis were murdered in a suicide bombing.
Palestinian Authority officials condemned the bombing.
Israel blamed the attack on inaction by the Palestinian leadership to fight terrorism.
"Palestinian terrorists remain committed to striking at Israelis in the heart of their own cities," David Baker, an official in the prime minister's office told Ha'aretz on Thursday.
A spokesman for Sharon said the suicide bombing on a Jerusalem bus illustrated why Israel is building the separation fence in the West Bank.
U.S. diplomats John Wolf and David Satterfield, who met Wednesday in Ramallah with Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, relayed a message Thursday to Israel, according to which Qureia was willing to meet Sharon without preconditions.
