OKLAHOMA CITY, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Oklahoma Democrats may be friendlier to southerners Wesley Clark and John Edwards in next Tuesday's presidential primary, political observers say.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, who won primaries in New Hampshire and Iowa, has all but ignored the Sooner state so far, although his television commercials began Wednesday.

A recent poll by the American Research Group put Clark, a retired general from neighboring Arkansas, ahead in Oklahoma with 23 percent of the vote. North Carolina Sen. John Edwards had 18 percent, Kerry 17 percent, Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman 10 percent and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean 8 percent, with 24 percent undecided.

This year's Oklahoma primary was moved up from its usual date in March to give the state a share of the national spotlight and it's worked, says Democrat Gov. Brad Henry.

"In my lifetime there has never been so much attention to the presidential primary," said Henry, who has refused to endorse any of the Democrats in the presidential race.
