S. Korea arrests IOC leader

SEOUL, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- South Korea jailed a vice president of the International Olympic Committee on corruption charges Tuesday, the BBC reported.

Kim Un-yong, 72, has been South Korea's leading sports official, an opposition politician and a powerful figure across the sporting world.

He denied any wrongdoing and said his jailing was the result of a vendetta by politicians and sports officials.

Last week, an ethics commission of the IOC urged that Kim be provisionally deprived of all rights and functions deriving from his IOC membership.

Kim's arrest had been expected, but it was delayed after he collapsed and was taken to hospital for treatment.
