Bonanno/Massino suspects indicted

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Twenty-seven members and associates of the Bonanno crime family were named in a 20-count indictment unsealed Tuesday in Brooklyn.

Those charged included acting family boss Anthony "Tony Green" Urso, acting under-boss Joseph "Joe C" Cammarano, eight active and former captains, 13 soldiers -- including one operating in Montreal -- and four associates.

Eighteen of those named were charged with 15 murders or murder conspiracies, according to the U.S. attorney's office, the FBI and New York police.

U.S. officials said it was the second time in little more than a year that members of the Bonanno/Massino organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra have been charged.

In January 2003, boss Joseph Massino was charged with racketeering. Those charges have since been expanded to include murder and murder conspiracy, officials said.
