WARSAW, Poland, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The mayor of Warsaw is planning to boycott the United States to protest new immigration rules on fingerprinting visitors.
Mayor Lech Kaczynski, from the conservative Law and Justice party that strongly backed the U.S. war on Iraq, threatened Monday to cancel his planned April visit to his counterpart in Chicago.
New anti-terror measures introduced at U.S. ports of entry this month require "biometric identifiers" including fingerprints and digital photos for visitors from countries not included in the visa waiver program. Only 27 countries, mainly U.S. allies, are in the program, and even their citizens must carry new passports that contain biometric data. Few have met the deadline.
"I have not taken the final decision yet, it depends on the abolishment of the obligatory taking of fingerprints and photographs of Polish citizens", Myor Kaczynski told the European Observer.
