Psych test ordered for Lindh killer

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Swedish court has ordered the self-confessed killer of Swedish politician Anna Lindh to undergo a psychiatric examination, the BBC said Monday.

Judges at the Stockholm court said Mijailo Mijailovic, 25, should have the tests to determine whether he was accountable for his actions.

Mijailovic has admitted stabbing the foreign minister with a knife in a Stockholm department store in September last year, but denies murder.

Prosecutors called for Mijailovic, who blamed the attack on voices in his head, to be jailed for life.

Prosecutor Anita Blidberg told the panel of two judges and three politically appointed jurors in her Monday summation there "was nothing that indicates that he was so seriously ill" that he did not know what he was doing.

But defense lawyer Peter Althin said Mijailovic, who had been on strong medication at the time of the attack, had sought help for his psychological difficulties, but had been turned away.

The psychiatric evaluation is expected to take four to five weeks.
