McKinney angling for rematch in Ga-04

By PETER ROFF, UPI Senior Political Analyst

WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney is angling for a rematch against the woman who defeated her in the 2002 Democratic congressional primary.

McKinney, who gained national attention when she suggested in a radio interview the Bush administration may have had foreknowledge of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack and failed to act because it would benefit wealthy campaign contributors, is planning to challenge U.S. Rep. Denise Majette in the July 20 Georgia congressional primary.

McKinney's father, former state Rep. Billy McKinney, confirmed her daughter's intentions over the weekend.

Majette emerged the victor in their 2002 meeting, winning 58 percent of the more than 117,000 votes cast. McKinney recently turned down overtures to run for president in 2004 as the candidate of the Green Party.
