MIAMI, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Miami-Dade County police Monday sought the shooters in a gunfight that accidentally killed a 10-year-old Florida boy.

Jarobe Brooks was sitting in a neighbor's back yard talking to a friend through a screen door Saturday, when the bullet hit him in the back of the head, the Miami Herald reported Monday.

"Witnesses observed several males fleeing on bicycles and on foot as shots were being exchanged between the numerous subjects," said Detective Robert Williams.

"People around here, they're always messing around with guns, and now my only son is dead," Luwanna Westberry, the boy's mother, told the Herald.

It was the fourth such incident in the area involving a stray bullet since 1997. Two of the other victims were 13 and one was 5.
