Clark says no way to Veep post

WASHINGTON, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark Sunday dashed any speculation he would wind up a vice presidential candidate.

"I'm running to be the president of the United States, not the vice president, and I will not accept that nomination," Clark told NBC's "Meet the Press."

The former NATO supreme commander and retired U.S. Army general continued his attack on President Bush's policies in Iraq and Afghanistan, CNN reported.

He told NBC it was "a mistake" to shift the focus from the war on terrorism and hunt for Osama bin Laden to Iraq and Saddam Hussein.

Clark also shot down criticism of some of his fellow Democrats' foreign expertise, saying compared to Bush, "any of the Democratic candidates are more qualified."

On the domestic front, he accused Bush of pursuing an unwanted "radical, heartless, right-wing agenda," CNN said.

Clark sat out Sunday's Democratic debate in Des Moines, Iowa, and was not campaigning for the Jan. 19 Iowa Caucuses.
