Two die in Texas plane crash

DALLAS, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A caregiver is being credited with saving the life of a 79-year-old disabled doctor when a small plane crashed into two Dallas houses.

Elnora Denmark picked up wheelchair-bound L.S. Thompson in the burning house and carried him outside to safety.

"I don't call myself a hero," the sobbing woman told The Dallas Morning News.

Sanders Thompson, the disabled surgeon's son, credited Denmark with saving his father's life. She has cared for the retired doctor for about four years.

The crash on New Year's Day killed the two occupants of the single-engine plane. They were identified as Dr. David D. Knowles, 59, of Bullard, Texas, and David Moore, 55, of Jacksonville, Texas. Knowles was the pilot.

The single-engine plane was taking off from Addison Airport north of Dallas in low visibility when it crashed into two houses. There were no injuries on the ground.

The National Transportation Safety Board said the pilot radioed that his instrument panel had failed but the cause of the crash is under investigation.
