JERUSALEM, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The Palestinian Authority canceled a meeting Wednesday with the Israelis to protest Israel's recent fatal raid into Gaza, Ha'aretz said.

Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia, responding to Tuesday's raid in the Gaza Strip that left nine Palestinians dead, canceled a meeting between his chief of staff and Ariel Sharon's chief of staff.

The meeting was to discuss details of an upcoming meeting between Qureia and Sharon.

"The meeting has been put off in protest at Israel's killing of Palestinians in Rafah," a senior Palestinian source said.

Israel expressed surprise at the decision, but said the talks had not been definitely agreed upon.
