MOSCOW, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The severed heads of two men have been found in separate incidents in east Moscow, one in a bag saying "Happy New Year," the Moscow Times said Wednesday.
The first was found by a passerby Sunday night on a table in a courtyard, and the second was found by a janitor in a garbage container. As the janitor ran off to call the police, a dump truck arrived, picked up the container and drove off. Police stopped the truck en route.
The two men remain unidentified, but they appear to be of Caucasian origin aged between 30 and 40, police said.
Both men had been dead for about 24 hours before the heads were discovered, police said. However, it is unclear whether the men died at about the same time or within several hours of each other, police spokesman Alexei Bakhromeyev said.
Police were questioning tenants and housing officials in the neighborhood, working on the theory that the men may have been local residents.
Forensic experts have yet to establish the cause of death.
