ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Operators of theme parks, hotels and restaurants in central Florida, one of the nation's most popular winter tourist destinations, are expecting a big year.
The Orlando area's tourist economy, which includes Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, took a big hit from the Sept. 11 tourist attacks but has been improving throughout the year.
Hotel owners told the Orlando Sentinel that last year they didn't sell out, but they expect to be full from the day after Christmas through New Year's weekend.
They don't expect the heightened terrorist alert this holiday season to have a big impact because of advance reservations.
The Orlando/Orange County Convention & Business Bureau predicts this year's visitor count will increase 1 percent to 43.4 million and reach a record 45.6 million in 2004.
