Pelosi attacks Bush in Democrat cash pitch

WASHINGTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- U.S House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., hit President Bush hard in a fundraising email Monday, criticizing the conduct of the war in Iraq.

"We need to get the 'war on terrorism' back on track by refocusing our efforts on the terrorists who started it," she wrote, just days after U.S. forces apprehended former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.

"We need new leadership to get us out of the mess in Iraq that the Bush administration's reckless, go-it-alone approach and lack of planning have gotten us into."

The message was written to solicit funds for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "You are fed up with what George W. Bush is doing to this country," she told prospective donors. "Today I'm offering you the chance to do something about it."
