OTTAWA, Ontario, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The Canadian federal government temporarily froze all of its capital projects Tuesday in an effort to help provinces pay for health care.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported former Finance Minister John Manley said the hope is that at the end of the fiscal year, $1.5 billion will be transferred to the provinces to help fund health care.

Finance Minister Ralph Goodale said the federal government does not have the money now, but all projects will be reviewed in an effort to save money.

Goodale told the CBC that while putting more money into health care is a federal government priority it also wants a balanced budget.
