Palestinian PM arrives in Jordan

AMMAN, Jordan, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qureia arrived in Jordan Saturday for talks with King Abdullah on ending Palestinian-Israeli.

Qureia was also due to meet later Saturday with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs William Burns at the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

Qureia's visit was timed to precede the king's expected visit to Washington next week.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher told reporters that the Palestinian prime minister was "carrying ideas on dealing with the security situation and creating the proper atmosphere to resume the peace process."

He said that King Abdullah would relay the Palestinian ideas to the U.S. Administration in his upcoming visit.

Muasher added that Jordan agreed with the Palestinians on "the steps needed to put the road map back on track, especially that time is running out with Israel's continued settlement activity and the construction of the wall or security fence Israel is building in the West Bank.

The minister said that continuing with the construction of the wall posed a "threat to the future Palestinian state," which the Mideast "road map" calls for its establishment by 2005.
