BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- The 19-year-old suspect in the death of a Southern California police officer was in custody Friday after being arrested in Mexico.

David Garcia was picked up by Mexican police in Tijuana who tracked him down and expelled him from Mexico in cooperation with U.S. authorities investigating the Nov. 15 slaying of Burbank Officer Matthew Pavelka.

Garcia will be arraigned Tuesday in a Los Angeles County courtroom on charges stemming from a traffic-stop shootout that left the 26-year-old rookie officer dead and another officer wounded.

Police said Thursday night Garcia had been on the run with the help of his associates in a North Hollywood street gang. Police jailed around 30 gang members and also members of Garcia's family for allegedly assisting Garcia while he was on the lam.
