Duri is believed to be masterminding anti-coalition attacks, MacDonald said.

He said troops "raided a building and detained three people including Duri's wife, his daughter and his physician's son." The United States is offering a reward of up to $10 million for the capture of Duri himself.

The former vice-president of Iraq's Revolution Command Council, Duri, 61, is believed to have more than one wife.

After ousted President Saddam Hussein, he is the senior Iraqi leader still at large and is in sixth position on a coalition list of most-wanted Iraqis.
