Cub Cadet lawn tractors are recalled

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Cub Cadet Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, announced the recall Tuesday of 2,000 Cub Cadet Series 7000 Compact Tractors because their shift levers could disengage.

The company, in cooperation with the U.S. Product Safety Commission, said should the shift lever pop out of gear on a steep slope with attachments, such as a back-hoe, the tractor could "free wheel," posing a risk to the operator.

The company said it has received no reports of such incidents or injuries.

The U.S.-manufactured tractors were sold at Cub Cadet dealers nationwide between May 2002 and mid-October 2003 for between $10,000 and $14,300.

Consumers are advised to contact the Cub Cadet dealership where the tractor was purchased to schedule a free repair.
