LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Veterans ruled the 31st American Music Awards, which ABC televised Sunday night from Los Angeles.
The winners are chosen by record buyers and they picked Fleetwood Mac for Favorite Pop/Rock Group, beating Matchbox Twenty and 3 Doors Down.
Alabama took country honors and the venerable Isley Brothers won Favorite Soul/R&B Group.
Celine Dion snagged Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. Luther Vandross' mother, Mary, accepted his awards for Favorite Male Soul/R&B Male Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album. Vandross is recovering from a stroke.
Dual winner rapper 50 Cent won Favorite Male Rap/Hip-hop Artist and with the album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'."
The upset was Kid Rock taking Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist, beating Justin Timberlake, John Mayer and Clay Aiken.
Aiken wasn't shut out, winning Fan's Choice Award, decided online live.
Timberlake took Favorite Rock/Pop Album for "Justified," while Toby Keith's album "Unleashed" captured his first AMA.
