Twins to move to another hospital

DALLAS, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Doctors say the formerly conjoined Egyptian twin boys are progressing well and will undergo further surgery and rehabilitation at another Dallas hospital.

Dr. James Thomas, director of critical care services at Children's Medical Center Dallas, said Ahmed and Mohamed Ibrahim have done remarkably well during the month since their 34-hour separation surgery.

Members of the surgical team talked to reporters Thursday as the boys were prepared for transfer to Medical City Dallas, where they will undergo cranial reconstruction and further rehabilitation in the next few months.

Dr. Frederick Sklar, one of the neurosurgeons, said the boys are doing "very, very well" but they have a long way to go. "It's not fair to say they are out of the woods, but they can see the garden," he said.

The boys were joined at the crowns of their heads when they were born in a village south of Cairo two years ago. They were flown to Dallas last year for evaluation by craniofacial surgeons at Medical City Dallas prior to the surgery Oct. 11-12 at Children's Medical Center Dallas.
