Students sit-in to protest Syria Act

ALEPPO, Syria, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Scores of Arab students made anti-U.S. threats at a sit-in protest Thursday in northern Syria over the U.S. Syria Accountability Act, reports said.

More than 200 students gathered in the campus of Aleppo University to denounce the act, which imposes U.S. economic and diplomatic sanctions on Syria.

"The Syria accountability act will not budge Syria from its national principles," read one banner held by the students who burned the U.S. and Israeli flags and an effigy of President George Bush.

Students charged that Washington was punishing Damascus for its national stance and support for rightful Arab causes.

"We, the Arab students are protesting and will threaten U.S. interests in our region," a spokesman for the students said.
