Russia to have a floating nuke power plant

MOSCOW, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Russia's State Chief Expert Commission is reportedly recommending construction of a floating nuclear power plant in the White Sea.

The Russian news agency Novosti said the floating plant, to be located near the city of Severodvinsk, would resolve the problem of supplying electricity to large areas along the coast and enhance the area's social and economic situation.

The Rosenergoatom nuclear energy committee noted the cost of heat energy from the floating nuclear power plant would be far less than from a thermal plant firing imported organic fuel.

The floating plant would cost an estimated $150 million, taking about 13 years to break even, Novosti said.
