BAGHDAD, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Six American soldiers were killed Friday in a helicopter crash outside a U.S. military base near Tikrit, the hometown of former Iraq President Saddam Hussein.
A U.S. Army spokeswoman said the 101st Airborne Division Black Hawk aircraft crashed about 125 miles north of Baghdad.

U.S. Central Command said the cause of the crash -- whether it was enemy action, pilot error or mechanical failure -- was not immediately determined.
The soldiers killed were not identified, pending notification of relatives.
It was the second U.S. helicopter to go down in Iraq this week, with a Chinook helicopter being downed on Sunday.
