Bosnian leader was war crimes suspect

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The Hague war crimes tribunal announced Wednesday former Bosnian president Alija Izetbegovic was under war crimes investigation until his death.

The announcement was issued as an estimated 100,000 mourners gathered in Sarajevo for Izetbegovic's funeral.

The BBC said tribunal spokeswoman Florence Hartmann did not reveal exactly what criminal accusations had been leveled against the wartime government head, but she said the inquiry will now be terminated.

Izetbegovic, who led the Bosnian Government during the war of the early 1990s, died last weekend at the age of 78.
