RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Saudi authorities executed a Pakistani man Monday by decapitating him with a sword after he was convicted of drug trafficking, the ministry of interior said.

Motabar Bin Khan Bin Kul, was arrested after trying to smuggle large quantities of heroine into the conservative Muslim kingdom, a ministry statement said.

Monday's execution raised to 48 the number of people beheaded in Saudi Arabia since the beginning of the year -- most of them for drug trafficking.
