Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A businessman seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Illinois has quit the race, throwing his support to a former opponent.
John Cox, who has made previous unsuccessful runs, dropped out of the race Thursday and encouraged supporters to get behind state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger of Elgin.
His departure, the Arlington Daily Herald says, "is expected to have minimal impact on a race" where most GOP primary voters are still undecided about which candidate to support.
Others seeking the GOP nod include former investment banker Jack Ryan, businessman Andrew McKenna and James Oberweis, a businessman and dairy owner.
The incumbent, Republican Sen. Peter Fitzgerald, is retiring after a single term.
