Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
PRINCE WILLIAM, Va., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- One of the two Washington snipers quietly invoked the Fifth Amendment during a Wednesday appearance in a northern Virginia courtroom.
The Washington Post said Lee Boyd Malvo, 18, answered a handful of questions from Prince William County prosecutors as he sat just feet from John Allen Muhammad -- marking the first time the two sniper suspects have seen each other since their arrest nearly a year ago.
But, the Post said, Malvo was on the witness stand for only eight minutes. He identified himself, gave his date of birth, and explained where he grew up and who he lived with as a child in Jamaica. Then, when asked a question about Muhammad, Malvo calmly replied, "On advice of counsel, I assert my Fifth Amendment privilege."
His appearance was apparently designed to allow prosecutors to assess his willingness to testify about his alleged co-conspirator role in last year's 13 sniper shootings that claimed 10 lives.
