WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A group of businessmen close to U.S. President Bush have reportedly established a consulting firm to advise companies wishing to do business in Iraq.
A Tuesday report by the New York Times said the firm, New Bridge Strategies, is headed by Joe Allbaugh, Bush's campaign manager in 2000 and the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency until March.
The Times said other directors include Edward Rogers Jr., vice chairman, and Lanny Griffith -- both lobbyists who were assistants to the first President George Bush and who now have close ties with the White House.
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan Tuesday refused comment on the report when he was asked about it en route to Chicago, where President Bush appeared before businessmen and attended a fundraiser before heading for Cincinnati.
The new company's Web site says, "The opportunities evolving in Iraq today are of such an unprecedented nature and scope that no other existing firm has the necessary skills and experience to be effective both in Washington, D.C., and on the ground in Iraq."
The site calls attention to the links between the company's directors and the two Bush administrations.
