WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- The weather system once known as Isabel was headed into Canada late Friday, threatening to deal a few more blows to people and property.

Damage assessment for Isabel is still just getting started a day after it hit North Carolina and moved north through Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The unconfirmed death toll stands at 15 with some reports of nine deaths in Virginia pushing it to 17.

State officials in Virginia are counting seven, however, with three reported in North Carolina, two in Maryland and one each in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

There was some flooding in North Carolina but not on the scale of Hurricane Floyd, which hit the state in 1999.

About 1.6 million businesses and homes were left without power in Virginia. Throughout the region, power failures topped out at 4.5 million.
