Latest SARS victim recovering

SINGAPORE, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The world's first known SARS victim since the deadly outbreak was declared over is reported recovering.

The unidentified man, a 27-year-old post-doctoral student from Singapore, has had no fever for five days and could leave the hospital next week, according to Esther Wong, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, though he would be subject to quarantine for two weeks.

Health officials say they are not sure how the man caught severe acute respiratory syndrome, New Science reported. The investigation has centered on two laboratories where the microbiology student worked.

"He's recovering fast," says Wong. "He'll be monitored for a couple of days more and if he's without fever he would be discharged by sometime next week."
