DETROIT, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A Detroit-area man is jailed without bond Thursday, charged with trying to hire a contract killer for two judges he disliked, a newspaper reported.
Harry Javens is charged with two counts of solicitation of murder, the Detroit Free Press said.
Assistant Michigan Attorney General Thomas Cameron maintains Javens tried to hire Richard McLauchlin, 49, -- who worked for Javens as a sometime property manager -- to kill 43rd District Judges Keith Hunt and Robert Turner for $3,160.
Each of the judges had jailed him in the past for failing to fix up his properties.
McLauchlin, jailed on unrelated fraud charges, testified Wednesday. He said Javens approached him about the judges in June, and the two discussed roughing up some of Javens' associates, who allegedly owed him money, McLauchlin said.
"He brought up the judges he wanted -- I don't remember if the word was 'snuffed' or 'killed,'" McLauchlin said.
