STARKE, Fla., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Paul Hill, convicted of killing an abortion doctor and his guard, was executed shortly after 6 p.m. EDT Wednesday in the Florida State Prison.
Hill, a 49-year-old former Presbyterian minister, was condemned for the July 29, 1994, shooting deaths of Dr. John Bayard Britton and his bodyguard, retired Air Force Lt. Col. James Herman Barrett, outside the Ladies Center in Pensacola.
On the eve of his execution by lethal injection, Hill held a news conference, telling reporters, "I expect a great reward in heaven."
He added: "I am looking forward to glory. I don't feel remorse. ... People have asked me if I would do it again; if I was put in a similar circumstance, I believe I would act similarly."
Hill, who said God told him to kill Britton, is the first killer of an abortion provider to be executed in the United States.
