Double bombing hits Russian train

MOSCOW, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Two bombs struck a Russian train Wednesday, killing five people and injuring at least 32 others, Itar-Tass reported.

The blasts occurred simultaneously at 7:30 a.m. local time on a suburban line that feeds a resort area near the North Caucasian spa at Yessentuki. Officials estimate at least 10 pounds of explosives were involved, planted under rail tracks 30 feet apart.

Emergency officials said three people died instantly while two others died after being rescued.

Seven of the 32 people injured are in critical condition, the agency reported.

The bombing is regarded by the government as a terrorist attack although no group has claimed responsibility.
