Ailing Utah boy missing, warrant pending

SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Utah authorities waited Thursday for the governor of neighboring Idaho to sign an extradition warrant for the father of a missing boy diagnosed with cancer.

Daren Jensen faces a kidnapping charge for moving his famly out of Sandy, Utah, rather than subject his 12-year-old son, Parker, to treatment for the rare bone cancer Ewing sarcoma.

Doctors warn the boy will die without treatment, however, his parents say he is perfectly healthy and they have doubts about the accuracy of the diagnosis. They don't want him undergoing chemotherapy that may be unnecessary.

Parker and his mother have since gone underground. The Salt Lake Tribune said Thursday their whereabouts remain unknown.

Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt this week asked his Idaho counterpart, Derk Kempthorne, to sign a governor's warrant that would allow Sandy police to take Jensen back to Utah within 10 days rather than the usual 30 days.
