Israel targets another Hamas vehicle

GAZA CITY, Gaza, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Israeli Air Force helicopters fired three missiles at a car north of Gaza City late Tuesday, killing at least one and wounding 26.

The attack was another Israeli attempt to assassinate members of the Hamas militant wing, Ha'aretz reported.

Resident Shadi Tayan, who owns a bookstore in the area, said "the people in the car jumped out and ran in two different directions" after one rocket landed near the front of the car. After the men fled, two more missiles hit.

Three men were in the car, including Wael Ekalan of the Hamas military wing, witnesses said. An Israeli security source confirmed the target of the strike was a member of the Hamas leadership.

The attack also killed bystander Hassan Hamlawi, 65, who was sitting on the sidewalk outside his water pipe shop when the missiles hit nearby. Among those wounded were four children, including an 8-year-old boy in critical condition, doctors said.
