Abbas condemns bus bombing

GAZA CITY, Gaza, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday condemned the Jerusalem bus bombing that left more than 100 killed or injured.

Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, told reporters after a meeting with Palestinian leaders of Islamic Jihad he thinks the attack was "a horrible action that would never serve at all the interests of the Palestinian people."

He called on Mohamed Dahlan, the Palestinian security affairs minister, to investigate the incident and take action.

Hamas' Abdel Aziz Ranteesi called the bombing "a natural Palestinian reaction to the daily Israeli crimes committed against the Palestinian people." He added he didn't think the attack would have any effect on the ceasefire currently in effect.

Both the Islamic Jihad's armed wing, Saraya Al Quds, Hamas militants in the West Bank also claimed responsibility for the bombing.
