Audio tape claims bin Laden still alive

CAIRO, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- An Arabic television station has received and broadcast Monday an audio tape claiming Osama bin Laden is alive and well.

The voice on the tape claims to be al-Qaida spokesman Abdel Rahman al-Najdi in Afghanistan, although that has yet to be verified, Voice of America said.

The Dubai-based Arabic television station al-Arabiya aired the tape, where the speaker says bin Laden is well, and that Afghanistan's ousted Taliban leader, Mullah Omar, is also still alive.

The whereabouts of both men was not divulged.

The man on the audio tape urges Muslims to fight U.S. troops in Iraq, calling it a holy war against occupying forces in the country.

The television station did not say how it came into possession of the audio tape, although it has broadcast many such tapes purported to be from groups like al-Qaida and Taliban.
