Lays sell last of 4 Aspen properties

ASPEN, Colo., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Former Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay sold the last of his four Aspen, Colo., properties for more than $5 million, the Denver Post reported.

According to listing broker Joshua Saslove, the four-bedroom, 5 1/2-bath, 5,000-square-foot house sold for $5.53 million, about $620,000 less what Kenneth and Linda Lay paid three years ago.

The couple has been selling their Aspen holdings since Lay resigned as Enron's chairman and CEO.

He quit the Houston-based energy giant in December 2001, when the company revealed huge financial losses that had been shielded by accounting abuses, and then filed for bankruptcy, the Post said.

One of the houses, described as a cottage near the posh ski town's center was valued at $3.1 million, but sold for $10 million. A vacant lot, near the Aspen Art Institute, sold for $2.15 million. The third house sold in May for $4.7 million.
