Two dead in small plane crash

GROTON, Conn., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Two people were killed Monday in the crash of a small passenger jet on approach to a Groton, Conn., airport.

The New York Times said two houses were set on fire by the crash, with the aircraft ending up in a river. Two people one the ground suffered minor injuries.

The director of Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y., said the Learjet 35A was en route to pick up passengers at Groton-New London Airport for a charter flight.

The only people aboard the aircraft were the pilot and copilot, whose names were not immediately released.
