FBI probes threats against Bryant D.A.

EAGLE, Colo., July 26 (UPI) -- Threats and intimidation at the office of the Eagle County, Colorado, district attorney have become so bad the FBI has been called in to assist.

Doors to the prosecutors' office were locked Friday for the first time and visitors had to identify themselves before being let in, the Denver Post reported Saturday.

A spokesman for the office said the threats have been escalating since July 18 when District Attorney Mark Hurlbert charged L.A. Lakers' star Kobe Bryant with sexual assault.

Officials would not reveal the nature of the threats, but the spokesman said they have been leveled against everyone from Hurlbert on down.

The FBI is investigating the threats, the Post said.

On Friday, an Eagle County judge said still and video cameras will be allowed when Bryant makes his first court appearance on Aug. 6.

Bryant has denied the accusations leveled against him by a 19-year-old woman.
