BAGHDAD, July 22 (UPI) -- U.S. military officials Tuesday said the sons of deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein were killed in a firefight in the northern city of Mosul.
Maj. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez said the military received information Monday on the whereabouts of Uday and Qusay Hussein from an informant and mounted an operation against theM early Tuesday.
Sanchez said members of the 101st Airborne Division approached a house on the northern edge of the city and were fired upon. The soldiers returned fire.
"We are certain Qusay and Uday Hussein were killed today," Sanchez told a briefing. He said four people were killed during the operation and the bodies were removed from the building.
"We have since confirmed Uday and Qusay were among the dead," Sanchez said.
Four U.S. soldiers were wounded during the operation.
