LONDON, July 22 (UPI) -- An agreement has been reached between the United States and Britain regarding punishment for two British terror suspects being held at Guantanamo Bay.

British Attorney General Lord Peter Goldsmith said Tuesday the United Sates has assured Britain it will not seek the death penalty in those specific cases.

The BBC said Feroz Abbasi, 23, from London, and Moazzam Begg, 35, from Birmingham, were on President George Bush's initial list of six detainees who could face American military tribunals, possibly leading to the death penalty.

But Goldsmith said, "It's been confirmed that the United States prosecutor will not seek the death penalty in relation to either of the two British nationals currently the subject of potential proceedings."

He also reported "significant progress" has also been made in other areas, including the choice of the suspects' lawyers, confidentiality of communications between lawyer and client, visits with family members and visits by United Kingdom officials.
