Two die in lightning strike

SALT LAKE CITY, July 20 (UPI) -- A couple at the shore of a lake in a Utah park were killed by a lightning bolt as their three children played nearby, far enough away to survive.

The strike took place at Crystal Lake in the Uinta Mountains where thunderstorms were moving through Saturday evening, The Salt Lake City Tribune reported.

The storms dumped hail and hard rain and the fatal thunderbolt.

The three small children were hospitalized and are expected to recover completely.

The incident occurred a year to the week after another young married couple died elsewhere in the state, killed by a lightning strike while the man and woman were scrambling, trying to find cover under a boulder.

Fire crews in the state have been kept busy by blazes started by lightning strikes since Thursday, the largest of which has burned more than 30,000 acres.
