DENVER, July 20 (UPI) -- Although some wildfires are still burning, most of Mesa Verde National Park is set to reopen Monday.
The park was evacuated and closed Tuesday due to fires that have burned through 2,250 acres.
Park staffers told KUSA-TV they planned to reopen most of the park on Monday, even though only about 10 percent of the fires had been contained as of Sunday.
Firefighters were putting their main focus on the blaze near Mesa Verde's famous cliff dwellings. But that fire was about three miles away from the site and guided tours were expected to resume Monday.
The park's main campground and several hiking trails will remain off limits.
Meanwhile, KUSA reported firefighters had contained the state's largest wildfire, which was burning in Brush Mountain about 30 miles north of Grand Junction. Lightning was blamed for at least 20 new fires in northwestern Colorado Friday night.
