Canada body-parts murder victim identified
DETROIT, July 17 (UPI) -- A tip on where to find the remains of missing labor leader Jimmy Hoffa turned up nothing, the Detroit News reported Thursday.
Deputies from the Oakland and Bay County sheriff's departments spent six hours digging up a back yard for clues that could lead to Hoffa's killers.
Convicted murderer Richard Powell told Oakland County investigators he was the driver of a recreational vehicle that was used to transport Hoffa on July 30, 1975, from the parking lot of a now-closed restaurant to a spot near the Au Sable River near Oscoda.
Hoffa, 62, vanished July 30, 1975, from the Machus Red Fox restaurant's parking lot in suburban Detroit.
Investigators took Powell's tip seriously because he previously helped them find the body of another man who had been missing nearly 30 years.
Hoffa's daughter, Barbara Ann Crancer, a St. Louis County municipal judge, said she wasn't hopeful anything would be discovered.
