Israel calls for better terror measures

July 15, 2003 at 7:57 AM   |   Comments

TEL AVIV, Israel, July 15 (UPI) -- The Palestinian Authority is not doing enough to fight terror, Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said Tuesday following a Tel Aviv beachfront attack.

One man was killed and two wounded in a knifing attack in the beachfront incident. The attacker, identified as a 23-year-old Jerusalem resident, was shot and arrested. He told investigators he is a member of the militant Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade of Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, Israeli media reported.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Information Minister Nabil Amr said Palestinian authorities "will continue our efforts to contain these acts and to put an end to these acts."

Shalom said Israel must continue making sure the Palestinians carry out what they have promised.

"If this time we don't insist that they fulfill their commitments, this thing will explode in our faces, as it has in the past," Shalom said.
