Israel nabs suspected IRA bomb expert

JERUSALEM, July 13 (UPI) -- Israeli officials believe a suspected Irish Republican Army dissident bomber was training Palestinian terrorists, it was reported Sunday.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested Saturday by Israeli forces in the West Bank town of Britain's, Fox News reported Sunday.

Britain's Observer newspaper reported Sunday that the suspect may have entered Israel last month on a British passport.

The newspaper identified the suspect as a member of the militant Real IRA, an IRA splinter group. The suspect had been sought by British authorities for years, FOX said.

The Real IRA has been blamed for a series of deadly bombings in Northern Ireland and Britain.

The Observer said Israeli officials had been seeking the man, who is suspected of training Palestinians in the use of explosives.

Israeli officials refused to comment Sunday, except to confirm to Fox that the suspect was in custody and being questioned.
