DETROIT, July 9 (UPI) -- A Detroit police officer who launched a Web site with the idea of getting his boss fired has been suspended.
Police Chief Jerry Oliver showed up during the 7th Precinct's roll call Tuesday and suspended Officer John Bennett, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.
Deputy Chief Tara Dunlop said the suspension is with pay.
Bennett has admitted operating the firejerryo.com web site, which is filled with negative opinions of the chief and in-house chatter. The site was launched last winter.
Detroit Police Officers Association Vice President Derrick Royal told the newspaper the rift between Oliver and Bennett has become too personal and the chief is overreacting.
The case will go before the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners if Oliver insists Bennett be suspended without pay. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
